Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh is on a sweeping campaign in the north. For the past four days, the NPP vice presidential candidate has left no doubt about the energy and wisdom he brings to the NPP campaign.
Damango
Paying a courtesy call on the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, at the Ndewura Jakpa Palace , Damongo in the Savannah Region, Napo as the running mate is affectionately known, expressed the NPP’s deep recognition of the invaluable role that chiefs have historically played in the development of the nation, especially during the struggle for independence.
He noted that this legacy speaks to the tenacious commitment of the respected chiefs to Ghana’s progress. “This is precisely why Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is committed to fostering close collaboration with our traditional leaders, recognizing their germane role in national development. “We stand firm in our conviction that Ghana’s future is bright, with our chiefs holding a key place in shaping that promising path,” he stated.
Rally
Later at a rally, Napo was convinced that the people of Damongo, having charted a new course with the outstanding parliamentary representation of Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, are committed to voting overwhelmingly for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia while continuing to support their dedicated MP.
Bawumia best to lead
Napo compared the two leading candidates from northern Ghana, and indicated that, there is no doubt that Dr Bawumia is best suited to lead the country in this defining moment. “His opponent, though a native of the region and having held the positions of Vice President and President has little to show. With Bawumia as President and Abu Jinapor as MP, Damongo, Insha Allah, is set to advance rapidly to its next stage of development,” he added.
Yendi
In Yendi, Napo paid a courtesy visit to Yaa Naa Abukari II at the Gbewaa Palace to seek his prayers, blessings, and wise counsel.
During the discussion, Napo shared the foundational story of the NPP as rooted in unity, and established with the support and active involvement of chiefs from the northern, southern, middle, and coastal regions who joined forces to form the United Party, later to become the NPP. “The NPP is a harmonious blend of individuals united beyond religion and ethnicity, embodying national cohesion and inclusivity. This, is what we present to the Ghanaian people.“
Yendi Rally
Later in the night, he addressed a rally attended by thousands of party supporters. He thanked the people of Yendi who have long stood firmly with the elephant, and are ready once again to champion the shared progress and safeguard the strides made as a nation.
