The NPP will always demonstrate its commitment to Ghana’s democratic journey, the party’s vice presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has assured.

He said the party was deeply immersed in the rule of law and the principles of democratic accountability, which are key ingredients for peace in every step of Ghana’s democratic process for which reason it will go for peace before, during, and after the December elections.

Dr Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, gave the assurance when he led the party to receive the Eminent Persons Group of the Christian Council in Accra on Tuesday, October 22.

The meeting was aimed at building building peace among the political parties ahead of the December polls.

No riots
Dr Prempeh said despite losing by the narrowest of margins in the 2008 elections, for example, the NPP did not disturb the peace of the country. “This, among many other instances, constitutes the NPP’s track record in upholding peace and democratic values,” he stated.

Decision
Dr Prempeh said the NPP believes that it is the people who will ultimately decide who governs them.
“Therefore, our flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, myself, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, our spouses, and indeed every leg of our campaign have been on the ground day and night, engaging with the electorate,” he said.

He added; “Ghana, surely, will once again rise to the occasion as the beacon of democracy and a shining example for Africa and beyond.”

NDC unfounded allegations
The head of electoral affairs of the NPP, Peter Mac-Manu, chastised the NDC for the unfounded allegations against the Electoral Commission (EC).

He opined that the NDC has been doing this just to score political points. He urged the eminent persons to bring the NDC to order for their inflammatory statements since the development does not hold anything good for the peace and democratic development of the country.

NPP peaceful
The NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the NPP will not do anything to disturb the democratic process.

He said the NDC has proved to be destructive, something that must be condemned by all true meaning Ghanaians.

Council delighted
The leader of the Christian Council, Rev. Enoch Thompson, was delighted with the NPP’s promise to ensure peaceful elections. He assured that the Christian Council was committed to getting all political parties to commit to the peace of the country.
