The Youth Wing of the NPP has accused Organised Labour of conspiring with the NDC to create disaffection for the NPP as general elections approach.
In a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, the youth wing said, “We wish to bring to the attention of the Ghanaian public that we are fully aware that the recent calls by Organised Labour and their motives are aligned with the NDC’s political strategy for the 2024 elections.”
The statement cited a confidential document titled, “Winning 2024 and Beyond” prepared by the NDC in 2021 to back the claim against Organised Labour.
It said the document which was leaked and came into the attention of the NPP in 2022 “outlines the NDC’s strategy for the 2024 elections and it is becoming increasingly clear that Organised Labour is following this politically motivated plan.”
Strange development
The statement added: “Over the past week, we have seen Organised Labour embark on a number of actions including threatening a national strike and vocalising strong opinions on the issue of illegal small-scale mining (galamsey).
“Interestingly, this new found activism comes on issues they have largely been silent on for years. It is highly questionable that they have only found their voices with two months to go before the election, especially, on an issue as critical as galamsey.”
Surprise
The young wing expressed surprise about the way Organised Labour has ignored efforts the government is making to curb the galamsey menace. “We call on well-meaning Ghanaians and members of various unions under Organised Labour to reject any attempt to politicize the fight against galamsey,” the statement urged.
