In a vibrant ceremony held in Hohoe, Gbi-Wegbe, the Dreams School of Craft proudly celebrated the graduation of its latest cohort of young women.
This initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Clement Asemnyra, founder of Dreams College of Creative Arts and a native of Gbi Godenu, aims to uplift underprivileged young women by equipping them with vital skills in garment surface ornamentation.
The training, which spanned three months, provided comprehensive education not only in intricate beading and embellishment techniques, but also in essential soft skills such as financial management, personal grooming, teamwork, and communication. The goal was to holistically prepare these women for successful careers in the fashion industry.
The event was graced by traditional leaders, community heads, and local residents, and took place at the Gbi Wegbe zonal council forecourt in the Volta Region. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of 27 young women who have now completed their training and are poised to become community leaders and industry professionals.
During the ceremony, Mr. Noel Agodzo, a patron encouraged the graduates to cherish and utilize the knowledge and skills they have gained. He emphasized that as the first batch of graduates, they are the torchbearers for future participants and role models within the community.
Mrs Susan Mantey, the Director of the Dreams School of Craft Foundation, highlighted that the program goes beyond technical training by fostering personal and professional growth. The foundation not only trains these young women but also secures job placements for them. The graduates are set to join various fashion houses as surface ornamentation specialists starting from June 16, 2025.
This impactful initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals of quality education and decent work for all. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and look forward to seeing this program expand to other regions across the country. The graduation was a colorful and memorable event, marking the beginning of a brighter future for these talented young women.
