One month in office: Mahama says he has performed excellently

President John Dramani Mahama has scored himself high marks in his first month in office.

Yesterday, February 9, Mr Mahama took to his social media handles to publish 22 initiatives, which he believes are indicative of the strides his government has made.

Among the President’s self-acclaimed achievements is the commencement of discussions towards restoring peace to Bawku. He however did not give details. Earlier, Mr Mahama had given indication that he was going to engage Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on ongoing mediation efforts to secure lasting peace in Bawku.

Achievements

  1. Commenced discussions with key stakeholders to restore peace to Bawku.
  2. Constituted committee to set up the Gold Board.
  3. Formed an 8-member Education Forum Planning Committee to submit report and plan.
  4. Formed the economic dialogue planning committee to plan and engage necessary stakeholders to revive economy.
  5. Set up Tripartite committee to negotiate and determine minimum wage and base pay of public sector workers.
  6. Issued directive through EPA for immeidate halt of illegal mining activities in forests and water bodies.
  7. Reduced UG residential facility fees from GHc3,000 to GHc2,500.
  8. Averted imminent and orchestrated power crises.
  9. Reduced ministries from 30 to 23.
  10. Presented formal request to the IGP for investigations and report on deaths during the 2020 and 2024 Elections.
  11. Halted sale of state lands and request to Lands Commission for submission of detailed report on state land purchases.
  12. Reversed seeming culture of silence with directive to CHASS to highlight challenges associated with implementation of the free SHS programme.
  13. Nominated ministers in record first 14 days.
  14. Reduced Hajj fares from GHc75,000 to GHc62,000 per person .
  15. Instituted National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service.
  16. Allocated foods stored at warehouses in Tema to various Senior High Schools to address feeding challenges.
  17. Halted use of public funds for the National Cathedral project.
  18. Tightened surveillance at markets and directives to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to locate fire tenders closer to all markets
  19. Donated GHc1 million to victims of the recent Kantamanto fire.
  20. United chiefs of the Western Region Chiefs after 5 years of a divided House of Chiefs.
  21. Constituted the Constitution Review Committee to review 1992 Constitution.
  22. Formed the ORAL preparatory committee to gather evidence for further action.
