Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah has reiterated President John Mahama’s assurance to follow the comprehensive roadmap to resolve the Bawku conflict through traditional means.

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is leading the charge in resolving the bloody dispute.
Recently, President Mahama was in Kumasi to confer with the Asantehene on his ongoing mediation efforts.

Before meeting Otumfuo, the President was in Mamprugu where he told the Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II about his planned meeting with the Asantehene.

President Mahama told the Nayiri that in his last briefing by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, before he left office, he told him about the mediation efforts that was being undertaking, led by Otumfuo. “I wish to be able to discuss it with Otumfuo and see how we can continue that effort.“

He emphasized how Otumfuo led the process to solve the Dagbon problem, and expressed confidence in him to do same in Bawku.

Meeting
Yesterday, February 12, the Defence Minister met with the Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak; the Chief of the Defence Staff, Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, and some other Members of Parliament at the Ministry of Defence.

They reviewed the current security situation relating to the dispute in Bawku. The meeting came as killings and burning of properties continue in Bawku and Walewale.

Determination
Dr Omane expressed the government’s determination to work to restore peace and stability to Bawku and other communities.
