There is a renewed sense of hope in Bawku, as the area has remained quiet and peaceful since Otumfuo Osei Tutu II resumed his mediation efforts in the Kusasi-Mamprusi conflict.

According to Henry Mbila Adusa, a youth leader in Bawku, not a single gunshot has been fired since last week’s mediation meetings held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. “Otumfuo’s mediation is working,” he stated during an interview with Metro TV on Tuesday.

However, he appealed to the Asantehene to expedite the mediation process so that the long-awaited lasting peace can be achieved.

Postponement

The Bawku peace mediation at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi began with an initial engagement between the Asantehene and representatives of the conflicting factions on April 28.

On that day, the Asantehene met separately with the leaders of the Mamprusi and Kusasi groups in closed-door sessions aimed at fostering a peaceful dialogue.

The postponement was based on the necessity for further consultations and preparations to ensure a more structured and inclusive dialogue in the upcoming session.
