In an unprecedented move within the Fourth Republic, President John Dramani Mahama has nominated as many as 17 individuals of northern extraction for Municipal and District Chief Executive (MDCE) positions in the Ashanti Region.

The development has sparked outrage in some circles, with many questioning the President’s decision to appoint such a large number of northerners over qualified Asantes within the NDC.

Comments

One person commented on Facebook: “The funny thing is that when you raise issue about this, their usual response will be that you are being tribalistic. Meanwhile, you dare not nominate an Akan person in Volta region or the northern part of Ghana, Such tolerance can only be seen in Akan areas.”
