Farmers have urged policymakers to improve access to funding for Ghanaian farmers and agribusinesses to help scale up operations and boost productivity.

Speaking on the Citi Business Festival On-Air Series with Vivian Kai Lokko, Co-Founder of Hendy Farms, Sandra Snowden highlighted the numerous challenges facing the agricultural sector, stressing that access to capital remains one of the most critical barriers to growth.

She noted that although some progress has been made, more needs to be done to make financing more accessible and affordable for farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs.

Underscoring the importance of financial inclusion in agriculture, Sandra Snowden urged the government to fast-track the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank and implement support systems tailored to the sector’s unique needs.

“There should be more access to funds, lower collateral limits. I think a few banks also have agri-desks, which are increasingly helping so you can talk about agribusinesses not being too much of a risk anymore.

“We’re all hopeful and looking forward to the Women’s Development Bank, which will be in motion soon. We hope this year, which should be more accessible to small-scale processing companies and women farmers,” Co-Founder, Hendy Farms, Sandra Snowden said.

The 2025 Citi Business Festival, powered by Citi FM and Channel One TV, is a month-long initiative dedicated to driving business growth and economic transformation.

It is held in partnership with Absa Bank Ghana and MTN, with sponsorship from Zonda Tec Ghana.
