Manchester United Decide on Ruben Amorim’s Future Ahead of Europa League Final

Manchester United have no plans to sack head coach Ruben Amorim this summer even if he fails to oversee a victory in the Europa League final, a report has revealed.

Amorim was hired in November to try and fix a mess left behind from the reign of former boss Erik ten Hag, but few could have predicted the situation in which the Red Devils would find themselves at this point in the campaign. United have fallen down to 16th in the Premier League standings but can restore some credibility by beating fellow strugglers Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final and booking a spot in next season’s Champions League as a result.

The United head coach has admitted he is “embarrassed” by the club’s current situation and recently opened the door to a shock departure this summer, insisting everyone involved with United needs to usher in change or make way for somebody else who can address the malaise.

United officials, for their part, have no interest in parting ways with Amorim. The Guardian state those responsible for making such decisions, are firmly behind the current boss and recognise the need to sign players better-suited to his preferred tactical system.

Amorim has voiced concerns about the current squad’s ability to play in his 3-4-2-1 formation and United are sympathetic to the issue. Even if they fail to win the Europa League and bank the riches that come with Champions League qualification, they will endeavour to build a squad capable of meeting Amorim’s demands.

Just who United end up signing will depend on their final budget. Plans are already in place to trigger the £62.5m release clause of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha – a move which expected to go through regardless of the conclusion to United’s European campaign.

Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, whose contract includes a £30m release clause, is another key target, while Amorim is also thought to want upgrades in goal and at wing-back.

Futher attacking signings could be pursued if United can raise funds through player sales. The likes of Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, speculatively valued at £100m, could be targeted if fringe players like Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho can be sold.
