All set for Asantehene’s historic visit to Cape Coast

All is set for Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s historic royal visit to Cape Coast tomorrow.

It is the first time in modern times that an Asantehene is visiting the Central Regional capital, a town with so much history behind it.

Key activities of the Asantehene is the conferment of an honorary doctorate degree on him by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) tomorrow, Thursday September 5, for his outstanding contributions to nation-building, peace, and development.

On Saturday, Otumfuo Osei Tutu will grace the climax of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye.

Special congregation
The special congregation to confer the honorary doctorate degree on the Asantehene will take place at the New Examinations Centre of the University.

The UCC has described the conferment as a significant occasion that will bring together distinguished personalities from various sectors to celebrate Otumfuo’s exceptional achievements. For the institution, it is a privilege that it is honoring the Asantehene, whose invaluable contributions serve as an inspiration for future generations to strive for excellence in their respective fields.

Unity
The UCC praised the Asantehene’s unwavering commitment to fostering unity, education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship, noting that his efforts have positively impacted numerous lives.

The university also commended Otumfuo for embodying love, peace, and democracy, citing his successful efforts in persuading leaders of various political parties to commit to ensuring peace during Ghana’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections since 2012.

“In addition, the Asantehene played a crucial role in the Mediation Committee that effectively resolved the Dagbon chieftaincy conflict.

“His calm demeanor and adeptness in resolving challenging disputes have contributed to the resolution of over 500 land and chieftaincy conflicts nationwide,” the university said in a statement.

Humanity
“The University also recognises his significant contribution to humanity in the areas of water and sanitation, health,  education, entrepreneurship, culture, and heritage. His peaceful persona and his ability to settle difficult disputes have indeed contributed to the settlement of over five hundred (500) land and Chieftaincy disputes among his people and elsewhere,” the statement said.
