Ghanaian nurses in Barbados have expressed their gratitude to the former Akufo-Addo government for the initiative that allowed them the opportunity to work in the country.

This visionary programme has successfully placed 374 Ghanaian nurses in Barbados.

During a meeting last week with former Second Lady Samira Bawumia in Bridgetown, a representative of the group stated, “We thank the former President and Vice President Dr. Bawumia for giving Ghanaian nurses the chance to assist the Barbadian government.”

The nurses noted that the first group arrived in Barbados in 2020 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the entire group have performed exceptionally well, earning appreciation from the Barbadian government.

Ambassadors of Ghana
Samira Bawumia reminded the nurses that they are ambassadors of Ghana, emphasizing that the impression they create in Barbados will reflect on their home country.

She highlighted that the initiative sending them to Barbados was a creative approach by the Akufo-Addo government to provide jobs and explore opportunities for the youth. “As a government, we aimed to create jobs and identify opportunities for our vast youth population,” she explained.

Samira added, “Although we are no longer in government, our love for the country and our passion for young people continues. Myself, the former President and Vice President stand with you, and if there is anything we can do in our current positions to assist you, we are ready to help.”
