Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, has called for a review of taxes on football items further citing the situation as “inimical” to the industry.

He said this in his extensive speech delivered at the 30th Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The GFA President’s speech was stated on Day 2 of the Congress with the opening day highlighted by a sod cutting ceremony for the construction of a gym, a swimming pool and futsal arena.

Touching on the thorny issue of taxes, the GFA Boss indicated that taxes on imported football items like football boots were hurting the football industry in Ghana.

“The items imported by the GFA, or donated for use by the National Teams and for Grassroots Football development, have been taxed over the years. For a football industry that is already heavily resource-constrained, this practice is inimical to the development of the industry.”

The 29th Ordinary Congress was held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.
