Nsoatreman FC owner and former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Hon. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, along with club official Joseph Kyeremeh, has been granted bail after their arrest in connection with the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.

The two, along with Agyemang Duah Owusu, were taken into custody following a violent altercation during the Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kotoko at Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre on February 3, 2025.

Pooley was fatally stabbed in the clashes, sparking outrage and calls for action against hooliganism in Ghanaian football.

Agyemang Duah Owusu, who remains in police custody, was found with suspected bloodstained clothing and a firearm at his residence.

He has been remanded until February 17, 2025, when he will reappear in court alongside Baffour-Awuah.

In response to the incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has indefinitely suspended Nsoatreman FC’s home venue and halted the Ghana Premier League while investigations continue.

Clubs, including Hearts of Oak, have joined the campaign against hooliganism, calling for stricter measures to ensure safety at match venues.
